Rev. Margaret Ann Cowden is an ordained American Baptist minister currently serving as a consultant in socially responsible investing for the American Baptist Home Mission Society. She retired in July 2007 after 28 years of denominational service in various roles within American Baptist Churches. Her roles included Treasurer and CFO of The American Baptist Home Mission Society from 1999 until her retirement in 2007; President of The American Baptist Extension Corporation, which provides mortgage loans to churches, and Deputy Executive Director of The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board, which provides retirement benefits for American Baptist employees. She has also served on the board of managers of The American Baptist Foundation, including serving as its Treasurer.
Rev. Cowden completed programs at Columbia University’s Institute for Not-for-Profit Management in New York City and Harvard University’s Program for Management Development at its Graduate School of Business in Cambridge, Mass. Along with a Ph.D. in psychological studies from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa., she holds a master of divinity degree from American Baptist Seminary of the West.
Rev. Cowden currently serves on the governing board of The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, serving as its Treasurer, as well as on the boards of Church World Service, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School and The Isaiah Fund.
