Exxon Mobil & SEC: Rule 14a8
Global Warming Shareholder Campaign Profiled in the Times
Sunday Magazine:
ICCR Responds
NEW YORK, NY///August 14, 2007///Sr. Pat Daly and the members of the Global
Warming Shareholder Campaign were featured in the August 12th edition of the
New York Times Sunday Magazine in the article "Resolved:
Public Corporations Shall Take Us Seriously." ICCR's Executive Director,
Laura Berry, today issued the following comment in response:
To the Editors of the NYT Sunday Magazine:
While appreciating the accurate representation of the amazing and successful
efforts Sr. Patricia Daly and the Global Warming Shareholder Coalitions
work as active shareholders of ExxonMobil, I must issue a very time-sensitive
warning to all concerned shareholders and citizens. Since late July of this
year, regulators at the SEC have begun a process that could seriously curtail
or eliminate entirely a shareholders right to avail themselves of the
democratic processes the article describes. Rule 14a8, which permits shareholders
to file advisory resolutions is at risk and the public must respond to protect
shareholders rights. As the Executive Director of the Interfaith Center
on Corporate Responsibility, the coalition of nearly 300 institutional investors
who work to bring the moral voice of their faith traditions to corporations
on issues of sustainability and justice, we are deeply concerned about the
proposed rule changes and encourage all concerned citizens learn more from
