Video Games: Gift Giving in the Holiday Season
Gift Giving in the Season of Peace:
What Can We Do About Violent Video Games?
NEW YORK, NY///November 19, 2007///ICCR is once again sending out its annual
Holiday
Letter encouraging shoppers to be cautious when purchasing video games for
children.
Video games are most often the item given as holiday gifts to children and
adolescents. It is estimated that 80% of all video games sold are done so during
the holiday season. We ask parents, grandparents and consumers to be extremely
careful when selecting video games as gifts.
Included in this years Holiday
Letter is information and a chart on video game retailer policies regarding
sales to minors of Mature (M) rated video games. The retailer chart
gives parents and consumers information to make a choice on which retailer they
feel best serves their needs and expectations.
Please share this information with your religious congregations, schools, and
media contacts (especially for inclusion in newsletters and other publications
this holiday season), as well as to family and friends.
The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) is a coalition of
275 faith-based institutional investors that have been working with retailers
on sale policies and practices for over five years to develop industry best
practices and to ensure that inappropriate video games do not fall into the
hands of children.
